To get to Three Fingers take the Mountain Loop Highway up 6.5 miles in which you take a left onto Forest Service Road # 41. When the pavement ends, stay to your left -- there will be a junction -- and stop about 17 miles from Mountain Loop Highway. Right before the road peeters out, the trailhead will be on the left side of the road.
This
is a 16 mile, roundtrip hike, which should not be attempted without gear or proper hiking experience. Goat Flats is a beautiful meadow sitting atop a ridge.
At Goat Flats there are amazing campsites ideal for families or large groups. There are also beautiful views into the valleys below and sometimes
mountain goats can be seen, grazing the grassy fields.
The hike steadily ascends uphill 2.5 miles to Saddle Lake which is a small lake, easily confused
with a creek, but beholds gorgeous surroundings. Beautiful views of Mount Baker, Whitehorse Mountain, and bordering cities can be seen at night if
fortunate enough to have a camping trip in this rugged area.
