The Mallardy Ridge Trail (#706) is three miles in length, and begins in an old-growth forest at 3,000 feet in elevation. After 1.5 miles the trail begins a gradual climb, where it passes a handful of small ponds and rich vegetation.
The trail continues to climb and reaches Cutthroat Lakes (the forest service reports this lake is "said" to have good fishing). The trail will continue on and eventually reach the Bald Mountain Trail as well as Ashland Lakes. Bald Mountain Trail offers great views of Spada Lake, which is visible a ways off.
The forest service reports the trail opening up into an area of meadows, with areas of trees, and an "occasional rock talus" (approx. elevation of 4200 feet).
